Gemütlich

Quando mi sono trasferito a Vienna era inverno, inizio febbraio. Faceva freddo, giravo per sta città straniera con una lingua per me ancora sconosciuta e pensavo a come avevo girato mezza Europa per alla fine capitare in un posto dove fa freddo come all’Aquila.

Mi piace il freddo e l’inverno. Il cielo terso, il gelo, il ghiaccio. L’aria che pizzica. Forse è una delle poche cose che mi manca dell’Aquila. Il cielo blu, l’aria di montagna, le montagne, il sole d’inverno.

Il pomeriggio accendo il camino e la sera mi godo il calduccio, gemütlich. Ho sempre sognato una casa col camino, come quella del mio amico del cuore.

Lui c’aveva una casa che sembrava una baita di montagna. C’aveva il terrazzo, il giardino e addirittura due piani. Le camere al piano di sopra c’avevano pure la moquette. C’era il camino, ma soprattutto c’era quella che io all’epoca identificavo come normalità.

When I moved to Vienna it was winter, early February. It was cold, I wandered around this foreign city with a language still unknown to me and I thought about how I had traveled around half of Europe to end up in a place where it's cold like in my hometown L'Aquila.

I like the cold and the winter. The clear sky, the frost, the ice. The pinching air. Perhaps it is one of the few things I miss about L’Aquila. The blu sky, the mountain air, the mountains, the winter sun.

In the afternoon I light the fireplace and in the evening I enjoy the warmth, gemütlich. I've always dreamed of a house with a fireplace, like my bosom friend's.

His house looked like a mountain hut. There was a terrace, a garden and even two floors. The upstairs bedrooms were also carpeted. There was the fireplace, but above all there was what I identified as normality at the time.
